Introduction

소개 / What is Energy Science?

에너지과학과(DOES)는 2009년 WCU 사업으로 설립된 융복합 에너지 과학 대학원 학과입니다. 나노과학과 에너지의 융합에서 출발해, 이제는 원자 스케일의 소재 발견부터 그리드·플랜트의 시스템 최적화, 에너지 경제와 정책까지 다섯 스케일을 연결하는 학문 영역으로 확장되었습니다.

모든 스케일을 잇는 중심축은 인공지능입니다. 2026년 AI 기반 에너지 경제·정책 전문가(유선빈 교수) 영입을 시작으로, 자율 실험, AI 기반 소재 합성, 디지털 트윈을 통한 거시 에너지 시스템 설계 등 새로운 연구 방법론을 학과 안으로 끌어오고 있습니다.

BK21 FOUR 에너지과학 교육연구단(단장: 윤원섭 교수) 운영을 통해 "2027년까지 신재생에너지 분야의 패러다임 전환 선도"를 목표로 하며, 대한민국 「탄소중립·녹색성장 기본법」(2021)이 요구하는 2050 탄소중립의 과학적 기반을 만듭니다.

The Department of Energy Science (DOES) is an interdisciplinary graduate program founded in 2009 under Korea's WCU initiative. Beginning with the convergence of nanoscience and energy, the department now spans five scales — from atomic-level materials discovery to grid-scale system optimization and energy economics & policy.

Artificial intelligence is the connective tissue across these scales. Since 2026, with the recruitment of Prof. Sunbin Yoo (AI-driven energy economics & policy), DOES has been actively bringing in expertise in autonomous experimentation, AI-guided materials synthesis, and digital-twin–based macro energy-system design.

Through the BK21 FOUR Energy Science Educational Research Group (Director: Prof. Won-Sub Yoon), the department is committed to leading the renewable energy paradigm shift by 2027 — building the scientific foundation for Korea's 2050 carbon-neutral target.

Established in 2009 under the WCU project. Funded by the BK21PLUS program from September 2013, and currently by BK21 FOUR since 2020.

    Prof. Young Hee Lee wins the WCU project funded by the Korean Ministry of Education, Science and Technology. The Institute of New Paradigm of Energy Science Convergence (Director. Prof. Young Hee Lee) is established.
